We are delighted to announce that the previous Technical Committee « Working with Computing System » has now been replaced by a new TC : « Collaboration & Design Activities Through Technology » The goal of this TC is to build and share knowledge on how humans collaborate together and create with the support of technologies, and how to design ergonomic technologies that effectively support collaboration, design and creativity in organizations, in work situations and in daily life. Collaboration and design are taken in a broad sense : every collective activity, and any creative activity. The focus is not on the technology itself, but on technology as a resource for smooth and constructive collective and/or creative activities.

We know international travel can be the most stressful part of any conference with tight connections, delayed flights, unfamiliar transfers. IEA2027 removes as much of that as possible. There are direct flights into London from across the UK, Europe and far beyond. Excel London is directly linked by train to Heathrow and to many of the major London rail stations, so you can be across the city in an hour, building in the breathing room you need without losing a full day either side of the congress. London City Airport, serving major UK and European cities, sits just across the water from the venue, making it one of the most convenient locations you’ll find anywhere.

Once you land, everything is close by. Stay at a great choice of hotels just a few minutes’ walk from the venue, with specially discounted delegate rates from £120 per night. No early alarms, no battling crowds, no cross-city commutes eating into your valuable congress time. We’ll provide full directions and guidance from all transport hubs so you don’t have to worry about that either. It couldn’t be easier.

Share your story: Solved a problem that made someone’s task easier? Found a smarter way to design for how people actually live and work? The community wants to hear it. Submit your research, case study or workshop proposal and join the conversation shaping the future of ergonomics and human factors.

Not presented before or unsure about how to submit? See our webinar: https://ergonomics.org.uk/events-calendar/iea2027-call-for-submissions-q-a.html

Secure your place: Early Bird tickets are now available with additional discounts for IEA Member Society members and students. Fly direct to any London airport and be at the venue within an hour by train. London City Airport serves major UK and European cities and is just across the water. Stay at hotels within a few minutes’ walk and take advantage of specially discounted rates from £120 per night. It couldn’t be easier.

ISO/TC 159/SC 1 has recently published two standards under the Vienna Agreement: ISO/TS 16710-1:2024, on feedback methods for understanding how end users work with machines, and ISO 16710-2:2025, on work analysis to support design. The Vienna Agreement coordinates international and European standardisation to avoid duplication and support the adoption of common standards.

ISO/TC 159/SC 1 ‘General ergonomics principles’ addresses ergonomics principles and processes. The SC 1 has published ten International Standards. Of these standards, two have recently been published under the Vienna Agreement: ISO/TS 16710-1:2024 ‘Ergonomics methods — Part 1: Feedback method — A method to understand how end users perform their work with machines’ and ISO 16710-2:2025 ‘Ergonomics methods — Part 2: A methodology for work analysis to support design’. The Vienna Agreement optimizes standardization resources and prevents duplicate work by coordinating efforts between ISO (international) and CEN (European). Under this agreement, international standards take precedence to reduce trade barriers, meaning that any standard jointly approved as a European Standard must be adopted as a national standard by all CEN members. When CEN develops standards specifically for the European market, global ISO members can still review and vote on them, ensuring international input and paving the way for potential adoption as worldwide standards.

Two webinars are organised by the Anthropometry Technical Committee in November: Three most important things to know for fit and sizing optimization.

This two-part webinar series will explore practical approaches to improving apparel fit and sizing through measurable fit definitions, fit testing, and population anthropometry. Sessions will take place on 5 and 12 November 2026.

People all over the world are still having problems with the fit and sizing of apparel. However, the problems are solvable, and we have demonstrated the solutions are effective. In this two-part series we would like to share these solutions with the IEA community. We will discuss the three critical components for solving most fit and sizing issues. These are:

Defining what we mean by fit in a measurable and consistent manner,

Knowing who we fit and, (very importantly), who we don’t,

Mapping this knowledge on our target population anthropometry and demographics.

First, ask any audience and you will find that everyone has a different idea about what fit is. Therefore, to measure fit reliably we must create a documented consensus definition that is consistently measurable. Second, most manufacturers don’t know who they fit or who they are missing or why. Without that knowledge sizing decisions are blind. We must measure the range of fit in a size to make informed decisions. Third, once we know the range of fit in each size, we can map sizes against our target population to determine what sizes are cost effective and to get the right size to the individual wearers. This two-part webinar series will address these components and how to translate this information into more effective fit and sizing strategies.

Part 1: How to capture fit knowledge

Date: 5th November (Thursday), 2026

Time: 4:00 p.m. UTC/GMT (11.00 a.m. EST)

Duration: 60 mins, including time for discussion

Part 1 will focus on the foundations of this approach. It will introduce the Concept-of-Fit as a means of defining fit in a measurable and consistent way and will examine how to use it in systematic fit testing to determine the Range-of-Fit in each size.

Part 2: How fit knowledge enables size optimization

Date: 12th November (Thursday), 2026

Time: 4:00 p.m. UTC/GMT (11.00 a.m. EST)

Duration: 60 mins, including time for discussion

Part 2 will focus on how fit knowledge can be translated into practical sizing decisions. The session will explore business considerations on the number and distribution of sizes to offer and communication tools for getting the right size to the users.

The IEA Gender & Work Technical Committee is pleased to announce the publication of the Special Issue “Ergonomics, Gender, and Social Sustainability” in the International Journal of Industrial Ergonomics. This Special Issue builds on two decades of international collaboration within the IEA Gender & Work Technical Committee, while extending its agenda to the increasingly urgent question of social sustainability.

Guest edited by members of the Gender & Work TC, the Special Issue brings together 17 articles examining how gender relations shape work activity, occupational health, working conditions, and opportunities for socially sustainable work across a wide range of occupations and contexts.

The contributions address gendered occupational exposures and health risks, work organization and structural inequalities, socio-ecological transitions, and participatory approaches to intervention and capability development. They also reflect diverse traditions within ergonomics, including human factors and activity-centered ergonomics, highlighting the value of dialogue across approaches for understanding and transforming contemporary work.

Its concluding editorial, “Gender, power, and social sustainability at work: advancing an ergonomics agenda,” synthesizes the contributions and proposes directions for more equitable, inclusive, healthy, and sustainable futures of work.
