We are excited to announce the recipients of the last three cycles of the Gary Marsden Travel Awards (GMTA) for 2021. The GMTA accepts applications from SIGCHI members who are students, early career researchers, or those experiencing financial hardship or lack of institutional support. It offers funds for attending SIGCHI conferences and events, and (for early career researchers) mentorship meetings. In these past three cycles, we accepted 14 applicants out of 26 who applied, supporting attendance at CSCW, Ubicomp, Mobile HCI, UIST, VRST, and RecSys 2021. Some applications were not funded as they were for non-ACM events that are better covered under other SIGCHI community support mechanisms, or were not prioritized under the evaluation criteria of Diversity, Contribution, and Progress. Thirteen applicants gave permission to have their name and institution listed below.

We hope to continue ensuring that the GMTA can meet the diverse needs of SIGCHI community members. If you have feedback, you can email us at sigchi-4all@acm.org.

We would like to thank the travel awards committee members, including Zhengjie Liu, Lena Uszkoreit, Frank Bentley, Moira Burke, Kori Inkpen, and Pooja Chitre.

We extend a special thank you and a heartfelt goodbye to Zhengjie, who volunteered to review applications past his term on the travel awards committee in order to keep the GMTA program running smoothly during the transition between ECs. His dedication to the travel awards program since conception has been exemplary, and broadening participation in the SIGCHI community would not be possible without volunteers like him.
