From 01 August until 05 August, 2026, the 5th Asian Conference on Ergonomics and Design (ACED) took place in Singapore. The theme of the conference was “Driving Human Progress through Human Factors, Ergonomics & AI” and referred to the tremendous developments of technologies like AI today and the importance of the involvement of Ergonomics and Human Factors I this development. Frederick Tey as ACED president chaired the conference. More than 200 participants from all across the Asian region and beyond joined the conference, sharing their knowledge, ideas and experiences in many parallel sessions, by presentations and posters. Many people of the IEA Executive Committee were present and contributed, e.g., as keynote speakers: Thomas Alexander (Vice-President-Treasurer) spoke about “AI at work: Tools, Assistance and/or Teammates? Ergonomics as Key Element”, Zhang Wei (Chair, Development and Promotion Standing Committee) shared his ideas about “Promoting Human Factors and Ergonomics for the AI Era” with the audience. In addition, Masaaki Mochimaru (Chair, Advisory Group on Standardization) chaired a panel discussion of the IEA AGS ISO TC 159. The great participation in the conference showed the importance and need of Human Factors and Ergonomics for a successful development of AI. It made important discussions of actual challenges among disciplines and across borders in the Asian region possible.
