This IEA webinar will again delve into the challenges that Human Factors and Ergonomics professionals may encounter as the future unfolds, this time from the unique perspective of the United Kingdom. This engaging session will be presented by two esteemed professionals in the field, Nigel Heaton and Rob Becker. The presenters will explore the evolving dynamics of modern work environments in the UK and the implications for HFE practitioners.
Nigel Heaton
Nigel’s early work experience included stints in very large commercial organisations (BT and GEC), central Government (HM Treasury), and academia (Loughborough University). For the last 30+ years Nigel has worked for Human Applications, an organisation providing a range of risk management services including consultancy, audit and training. Human Applications works with predominantly large national or multi national organisations, central Government, and UK Universities. Nigel is a Chartered Fellow of the CIEHF, a Chartered Member of IOSH, and a member of both the IIRSM and the IRM. Past roles include acting as the temporary Executive Director for HSSE at a plc, acting as an expert witness on issues relating to the management of Covid 19 risk and engaging with a number of executive boards at UK universities (including Cranfield, Loughborough, Sheffield, and Westminster). Nigel is an avid supporter of Leicester City (hence he is a bit sad). His hobbies include dealing with a very energetic cocker spaniel and supporting the National Trust (which includes dressing up for various events, but not in a good way).
Rob Becker
Rob has been a Human Factors Engineer since graduating in 2016 and has quickly developed a wide portfolio of HF work in safety critical industries such as Defence, Air Traffic Control, Cybersecurity and Nuclear. Now working in a consultancy setting, Rob continues to enjoy working on a wide gamut of HF work in different domains; making use of design thinking and user-centred design processes to accommodate human performance in an increasingly technology-driven world. In 2022, Rob was awarded New Ergonomist of the Year by the Chartered Institute of Ergonomics and Human Factors.
