We are excited to announce publication of the third free e-book in the “Ergonomics in a nutshell” series, this one designed for workers (labour) – “Ergonomics Made Easy“. Its introduction states “No matter what type of work you do, you can benefit from ergonomics. This document is written with the worker in mind. There’s no technical jargon, no “long and boring” safety lecture, no trying to tell you how to do your job. Just stories of workers who have seen how ergonomics can improve their workplace and their jobs. There are also tips to help you bring more ergonomics into your own workplace, and links to places where you can learn more.” Thanks to the chief editor, Richard Goggins (USA) and editors Micheal Bretschneider-Hagemes (Germany) and Angela Li Sin Tan (Singapore), as well as contributors: Allison Angold Stephens (Canada), Grace E. Vincent (Australia), Yanire León (Chile), Lim Tiek Whai (Singapore), Greg Osborne, Mason Tucker, Breca Tschida, Lori Severson, Claudia Kelley, Pam Zenzius, and Ernesto Carcamo (USA). Rosemary Seva, chair of IEA’s Science Technology and Practice Standing Committee oversaw the project.
This 50-page full colour e-book complements the previous e-books building baseline knowledge of ergonomics and human factors among diverse audiences. “Giving Your Business a Human Factors Edge” (19 pages, published in 2022 with the Chartered Institute of Ergonomics & Human Factors, an IEA Federated Society member) helps industry executives boost their organization by adopting a human factors approach, while “Giving your business the human factors edge … Making It Happen!” (61 pages, published in 2024) provides line managers with practical guidance on introducing HFE into the workplace. “Ergonomics Made Easy“, the third in the series, has been developed to help workers bring ergonomics into their workplace.
All three nutshell publications were produced with expert input from the HFE world-wide community and are available free of charge as e-books (with ISBN numbers) via iea.cc/publications section (under “Resources”).
Please share these three titles freely with your network to encourage best practices in all workplaces!
