The IEA was represented at the 114th session of the International Labour Conference (ILC) in Geneva by Andrew Thatcher and Thomas Alexander. The ILC sets the international labour standards and the broad policies of the ILO. During the conference, several thousand representatives from Government, Employers and Workers of the 187 ILO member states and non-government organizations gathered at the UN campus in Geneva to discuss world of work issues such as decent work in the platform economy, a transformative agenda for gender equality at work and social dialogue and tripartism (https://www.ilo.org/international-labour-conference/114th-session-international-labour-conference#programme). IEA was invited to participate in this event as non-government organization.

Thomas Alexander gave a speech in the plenary sitting on Monday 8 June to Government, Employers and Workers. The speech highlighted the contributions that ergonomics and human factors can make to support effective work in future. The speech specifically addressed ergonomics and human factors issues in the context of the Director-General of the ILO’s report, “A moment of choice: harnessing artificial intelligence for decent work”. The speech was well received, and many discussions with other delegates with various backgrounds followed.
